Hitachi is a quickly growing electronic appliance company, and one of the products that the Hitachi Company offers is digital flat screen television sets. If you have a Hitachi TV set, you can actually use the set not just for watching television programs, but also as an external monitor for your computer. Here’s how.
- Plug in. first, you will need to plug and connect both the Hitachi TV and the computer. You can do this by taking an S video cord. The S video cord usually comes with the Hitachi TV, although S video cords can also be purchased separately from most electronics shops. The input end of the video cord should be connected to the computer, while the output end of the video cord should be connected to the television. If you do not know where the S-video ports are, you can refer to the manual in your computer or your television set. Depending on the model of your computer or Hitachi TV, you can also sometimes use other cords, such as HDMI cables which allow more information to be transferred at very high speeds.
- Display Settings. Next, you will need to turn on your PC and the television set. in your computer, click on the Start Menu button found at the lower left side of the screen, attached usually to the taskbar. From the start menu, click on the Control Panel and search for the Display Settings. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the Display Settings can also be accessed by right clicking on the desktop. On the Display Setting, choose the S video cable as the AV input for the television set. Usually, this will be referred to as AV2.
- Resolution. Once you have chosen the AV2 as the input for the television, the computer will then send the AV information for the TV set, which means that you will be able to view your desktop and application interfaces through the TV set. However, the image displayed on the Hitachi TV set may be blurry especially if the resolution is low, such as if you have a small computer screen. To adjust the resolution, click on the Display settings in your computer and select the TV as the monitor of choice. From there, you can adjust the resolution for the TV. Sometimes, the resolution can be adjusted from the graphic card control panel, which is usually also found in the Display Settings tab. NVIDIA graphic cards, for example, have settings tabs that can be found by clicking on the Display Settings and then selecting Advanced Settings.
- Apply. Once you have determined which resolution you like best, you will need to press the apply button. usually, the computer will instantly adjust the resolution, and will give you fifteen seconds to determine whether you want to keep the setting or not. If you choose to keep the resolution setting, you will need to press the Apply button before the time is up.
With these steps, you can turn the Hitachi TV in your living room into an external monitor for your computer. This will allow you to expand your desktop while making the most of your TV.
