Radio waves operate at different frequencies and can be transmitted and received through radio frequency equipment. Transmitters broadcast the radio frequencies over the air and are then received through radio receivers. These are some of the equipment used for the transmission and reception of radio frequencies.
- Dipole Antennas. The Dipole Antenna is the most commonly used antenna and one of the most essential. It is capable of functioning by itself and can also be integrated within other types of antennas. Although it isn’t as powerful as other more advanced antennas it is still an effective component. The antenna has two sections that is of equal length, hence the name. A feeder is connected to the antenna to receive signals and power is sent to and from the antenna with very little loss or drop outs.
- VHF FM dipole antenna. The VHF FM dipole antenna is an economical solution to receive frequency modulation broadcasts especially for use on receivers that don’t have external antennas or if the antenna on the receiver is not effective in picking up signals indoors. The VHF FM dipole antenna is easy and cheap to make since it only requires a 300 ohm ribbon cable. It is flexible enough to run it through the house along the ceiling or window frame. It is easy to hide since the ribbon cable is made from transparent materials so you can run the cable underneath your carpeting or along walls and hardly anyone will notice it is there. It can help boost reception for receivers that have low frequency range.
- Radio Receiver. The radio receiver, together with other components like the antenna and electronic filter, can receive radio signals that are transmitted by radio broadcasting stations. Radio receivers normally have tuners for FM and AM; others have added features like streaming audio via the Internet. Consumer radios range from portable radios to car stereos and they all come in all shapes and sizes. Most portable radios have become smaller and usually as an added feature to audio player devices like CD players and MP3 players. But they are reliable enough to receive radio signals even if an external antenna is not available.
- Communication Receivers. Although radio frequencies are not limited to FM radio receivers, they are also used by radio communication devices. Communication receivers are typically high performance receivers that feature an antenna tuner, radio frequency gain control, and bandwidth filters. The receiver has a resonator that allows users to configure or adjust to a particular frequency. These types of communication receivers are widely used by law enforcement agencies, rescue departments and delivery companies.
Radio frequency equipment can be found almost everywhere in your homes, offices or out in the streets. They can be used for entertainment purposes, communication or for other purposes that require manipulation of radio frequencies like defrosting frozen food in microwaves.
